A distinctive figurative painting representing robotics, where the striking contrast of the black background and silvery ape-creature emphasizes its monolithic size and mystery. Crafted using quality acrylic paints.
The mechanical marvel echoes 1940's and Art Deco creations seen in film and posters worldwide, as well as antique wind-up toys for an intentionally dated, retro-futuristic appearance.
It is made on a large-scale, square frame. The painting continues on the side edges of the frame.
Produced on a heavy duty gallery quality wrapped canvas, covered by a triple layer of satin varnish for protection.
Signed on the front and back by the artist.
Comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity, which is electronically validated and has a
dry-stamped bar-code, along with a
Certificate of Appraisal.

THE CONTEMPORARY
SIMIAN CONSTRUCT
Technology beyond the wildest dreams of our ancestors currently lies within our grasp. Advancements into computing, energy, and artificial intelligence seem to herald a future that could be prosperous for all, or fraught with peril. Many confront the idea of machines taking their jobs, and how phones seem to be getting smarter but people don't.
In another time, robots were near-unequivocally objects
of hope and imagination. Little tin wind-up toys, shiny and chromed. Symbols of humanity's pinnacle: the power to create. And yet, how would an ape feel if presented with a metallic copy of itself? Would it attack or freeze with fear? Or assume it is simply a rather strange-looking member of its tribe, and welcome it accordingly?
Sooner than we think based on the exponential rate of advancement so far, artificial minds will be indistinguishable from natural ones. It is time to start considering when personhood applies to someone made of metal and rubber as opposed to flesh and blood.
The gorilla facsimile that stands inscrutably in this AUTOMATON piece represents an overlap between the primal, the bleeding-edge and the outdated. It is inspired by all kinds of machinery: its clockwork key-driven internals, laser-emitting visor, riveted & welded sheet metal plating, and motorized rollers cause it to coalesce anachronistically for the viewer's analysis.
What does technology mean to you?
